Peter Monahan

“Good Chaps:
Men of New Tecumseth who
died in WWII”

Peter taught English, History, Law and Philosophy for over forty years in Nigeria, Alberta, Toronto and Tottenham, most recently for the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board.  In addition, he re-enacts both the War of 1812 and World War One. He spent three years researching and documenting, at their request, the First War medals in the Canadian War Museum's collection.

An Alliston resident, Peter has written two books on the men whose names appear on war memorials in Alliston, Beeton, Tottenham, and Everett. His first book, 'Local Boys', about the casualties from the Great War, was published in 2019 and is now in a second edition.  The men who perished in World War Two are remembered in 'Good Chaps', published in 2024.

In addition to historical reenacting, Peter’s hobbies include bird-watching and the history of the British Indian army.
